Eversheds advises on a tuneful deal
International law firm Eversheds has advised co-founders Steve Oliver and Walter Gleeson and the management team of musicMagpie.co.uk, the purchaser and multi-channel retailer of replay CDs, DVDs and video games, on a significant capital investment from leading private equity firm LDC.
Established in 2007, musicMagpie.co.uk has become the largest operator of its kind in Europe, now employing over 500 people and serving customers in over 80 countries. The firm purchases CDs, DVDs and games direct from consumers. Items and materials purchased are then sold through a range of online, retail and wholesale channels with a large proportion being traded internationally.
The Eversheds team was led by Jonathan Robinson, assisted by solicitor Victoria Ross and legal adviser Abigail Zoltie.
Jonathan commented:
“This is a significant investment which will allow long standing client musicMagpie.co.uk to advance its online purchasing and sales capabilities overseas and continue with its impressive growth. We look forward to continuing work with the musicMagpie team as the brand goes from strength to strength.”
MusicMagpie Chief Executive Steve Oliver added:
"We hope to further develop the musicMagpie.co.uk brand, and our strong trading performance in the UK, in other countries. The next phase of our international expansion has already begun with the launch of our German website, which is already showing some very encouraging results. The replay entertainment market has an estimated sales value of £1 billion per annum with expected market growth of approximately 10 per cent per annum over the next three years. Eversheds is a trusted adviser and provided a comprehensive service in allowing this deal to complete.”
