Eversheds engineers new training centre

International law firm Eversheds has advised Kirklees College on the £10.7 million acquisition of a 5.4 acre site in Huddersfield, being used for the development of its new Engineering Centre. The firm also advised on the construction contract.

The development is anticipated to generate in the region of 50 jobs. The building will provide engineering and motor vehicle students with up-to-date and modern facilities to learn their trade.

Kirklees Council agreed the planning permission for the college’s second new building in the town in May and GMI Construction began the preparation work in June. The project is the second part of the college’s new building strategy that secured funding in 2009.

The Eversheds team was led by Eversheds partner Simon Chamberlain assisted by senior associate Nicola Fairbairn, associate Joanne Hawkins and solicitor Jenny Morris.

Simon commented:

“This centre is a pivotal development for the local area. We are extremely pleased to have advised on the land acquisition and supporting contracts. We look forward to advising the college on future matters.”

Kirklees College principal Peter McCann added:

“This will be a centre of excellence at Kirklees College, enabling the provision of much-needed training to the next generation of engineers. Eversheds advice and support was invaluable in allowing the completion of the project.”
