Eversheds helps Greene King crown London pub portfolio
International law firm Eversheds has advised leading pub retailer and ale brewer Greene King on the £70m takeover of the Capital Pub Company.
Founded in 1799 by Benjamin Greene, Greene King has been brewing beer and operating pubs for over 200 years. The deal marks Greene King's third pub group acquisition this year following the takeovers of RealPubs and Cloverleaf for a combined £108m.
Capital Pub Company owns 34 primarily London pubs including the Belle Vue in Clapham and the Marquis of Granby on Shaftesbury Avenue. The combined group will have 250 pubs in Greater London.
The deal follows swiftly on from Eversheds advising Greene King earlier this year in relation to a £400m debt facility, which enabled it to refinance its existing debt facilities.
The Eversheds team was led by partner Stephen Nash, assisted by senior associate Mark Satterly and solicitor Galina Kurovska, Stephen commented:
“This is an excellent step for Greene King, helping it move progressively closer to its target of 1,100 units. We look forward to advising Greene King in the future.”
Lindsay Keswick, Company secretary of Greene King, said:
“As our legal adviser, Eversheds executed the transaction in an incredibly short timeframe, demonstrating an impressive level of responsiveness and an all round quality service.”
