Maerdy Windfarm has consent to develop a 24-27 MW onshore wind farm, at the head of the Rhondda Valley in Wales.
REP, a UK developer focussing on medium and small scale wind farms, has spent the last eight years developing the site. The Maerdy Windfarm has consent for eight low environmental impact wind turbines and is set to be one of the first onshore UK wind farms to use 3 or 3.5 MW turbines. Construction of the site is expected to take place in early 2012 and the farm is expected to begin generating energy in 2013.
The Eversheds team consisted of renewable energy lawyers based in the Cardiff and Newcastle offices. The team was led by Partner and Head of Clean Energy and Sustainability, Michelle T. Davies, and included corporate lawyers James Bryce, Amy Wanless and Iwan Walters and real estate lawyers James Trafford and James Shawe.
Michelle said:
“The Maerdy Windfarm has been an ambitious project for REP as they have interacted with the local community and local authorities, and led the development of the site. Their work over the last eight years has resulted in a desirable, low-impact site which stands to be a good investment for Velocita.”
Richard Hadwin at Renewable Energy Partnerships said:
“The Eversheds team worked tirelessly to complete this deal, demonstrating professionalism while navigating the complexities that accompany clean-energy developments.”
