Magnificent seven convert miles into money

Over three days in September, an intrepid team of seven property and legal professionals will cycle more than 150 miles each to raise money for three children’s hospitals. Four lawyers from the Real Estate Practice Group of international law firm Eversheds and three surveyors from property company SEGRO will take part in the charity bike challenge, with the jointly raised funds donated to Alder Hey Haemotology Treatment Centre HTC in Liverpool, Cardiff HTC University Hospital Wales and London’s Great Ormond Street.

From 8 to 10 September, the team will cycle the Coast 2 Coast route from Whitehaven in Cumbria (on the Irish Sea) over the Northern Lake District, the northern Pennines and finishing in Newcastle at the North Sea.

Participating from Eversheds are associate Kirsty Tinsley-Fenney, partner David Emberson, solicitor Matthew Hayward and legal assistant Bethan Hodge. The SEGRO team comprises senior investment surveyor Chris Caiulo, property services manager Nick Banton and leasing manager Chris Davies.

The team was spurred into action by the fantastic work undertaken by Alder Hey when Kirsty’s son Logan was diagnosed with severe haemophilia at three months old. Whilst Logan, now age two, is responding well to treatment, the team wants to raise the profile of bleeding disorders to help ensure that there are no regional barriers to treatment for all children with these conditions.

“Not all hospitals have the same policy due to the financial implications of the cost of the immune tolerance treatment plan”, comments Kirsty. “Without the treatment Logan received, he would not be able to live a normal life due to the damaging effects on his muscles and joints that would be caused by a simple bump, trip or fall playing in the way that every other child takes for granted. I am extremely touched by the commitment and dedication of my colleagues and associates in raising money for this important cause.”

“Because of the relatively small number of patients with Haemophilia, the condition is not widely known about and there is still an enormous amount of research and work required to identify the best way to treat sufferers”, adds Chris Caiulo from SEGRO. “With the cycle ride, we hope to raise both awareness and money to support the fantastic work of these three hospitals.”
